My previous post was on writing some scala command line utility to quickly synchronize a directory’s worth of contents into the Rackspace Cloud Files storage medium. Well, this post is a bit ironic, in that I had to use the same utility to delete all my things from that very storage. I no longer work there, and so no longer have the benefit of some free cloud usage. Unfortunately, if you want to do things yourself, Rackspace is a bit expensive. They’re fantastic if you want to have them manage your cloud. They do a fantastic job, but I’m a do-it-yourself'er.
I have moved since to the Google cloud currently to take advantage of their Nearline Storage pricing for offsite backups. I haven’t actually gotten to use it yet, as duplicity isn’t cooperating with it. Debian has a version of duplicity that’s a bit too old.
That’s soon on the list of things to accomplish, however. Probably after some updates to Jessie.
